An AI model is the "brain" inside an AI tool. It is created by training a program on data until it can perform a task, and once trained it can take new input and generate a useful result.

It helps to separate the model from the app around it. ChatGPT is an app; the AI model is the trained engine inside it doing the actual thinking. Different apps can run on different models, and one model can power many apps.
